Since we discussed this in class on Thursday, I wanted to give you more information on the Tar Sands Action, a protest to stop the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. The proposed pipeline will stretch from Alberta, Canada to Texas. Proponents of the pipeline say it will help to create jobs and lower the U.S.’ dependence on foreign oil, while opponents argue that the pipeline is environmentally unsound due to deforestation during mining and the risk of ground water contamination, adding that it also keeps the U.S. dependent on oil rather than seeking alternatives.

The Tar Sands Action protests are peaceful protests at Washington D.C. calling for an end to the pipeline plans, though there have also been protests around the country over the pipeline. You can read more about the movement at the link above. See related articles below for more information about the pipeline and the latest news developments. And, as always, feel free to comment!
